"Satan's balls." Hence all the repeated calls in the recipe ". On Die Eier von Satan: That's right, it means literally "eggs of Satan" but Eier is also slang German for balls/testicles/cojones, and definitely means this in the context of the song. Amazing - I especially like the bit with scalpel passing over the disembodied head, opening up the third eye. I never watch MTV but I did get a chance recently to see the Schism video. Adam Jones is quite amazing - IIRC, he worked on the set of Terminator 2 as an f/x guy? I realize that bands are more than any one member, or even the sum of the members, I just feel especially connected to the lyrics, so I give a lot of attention to Maynard. I'm not sure what you mean by "I am worse than Satan" but Die Eier von Satan translates to The Eggs of Satan. The whole toolshed fiasco is a tragedy of earth-shattering proportions. He's largely responsible for the look and feel of the TOOL experience. TOOL is far and wide a major collaborative effort but if I was forced to nail any one member down as representing the band it would be Adam Jones, the guitarist. 6 songs and they're all excellent.Īnd Felonious Punk, Maynard is a lyrically and vocally talented but he gets too much credit for "being" TOOL. Opiate is a must have simply because its so short. One major difference though, Undertow can be digested piecemeal, each song really stands on its own, while Lateralus is more of a concept album and must be taken all at once or it loses some of its effectiveness. The next TOOL album to buy? I'd say all of them 'Noid They are all works of genius in their own way. Every store I've been in only has about one or two copies, but like I said every store seems to have one or two copies. As for Opiate being rare, I don't know about the UK but it's not over here in the states.
Chock full of info, images, sounds, everything.Īenima is one of my all time favorite CDs. Puts just about any fan site for any band to shame. If you haven't been there before, try Toolshed - it's an incredible site, run for like 8 years or so by a very dedicate fan. I thought the songs on it were mostly unremarkable, except for the last one (and title track), Opiate, which I liked. From what I've read, they took their six "hardest" tracks and threw it together to get the EP made. Opiate is fine, but not nearly as good as anything else they've done (I suppose it makes sense it's their first after all). Undertow deals with more personal (Maynard) issues, and is generally darker. Lateralus IMHO continues in the direction that Aenima went, metaphysical and mystical, less personal.
It's a hard call between Lateralus and Undertow - they are both excellent albums, but very different. Die Eier von Satan - sounds like a Nazi rally, actually someone reading the recipe to hash cookies in German. The album is full of crazy things, deliberate errors like the H listing, or the track "Useful Idiot" which is nothing but a recording of the sound a turntable makes when the needle has passed the last recorded track. Maynard James Keenan is a true genius.Ĥ6 & 2 and Third Eye are also incredible tracks, my two favorites on the disc. Epic is an excellent word to describe Aenima! They are like no other band out there today. I like Descending, 7empest, the title track and Pneuma all about equally and Culling Voices is almost there.Tool is, by far, my favorite band. Most folks favor Pneuma as you did, but I'm taking to that one more slowly. I'm going with Invincible still as my favorite. This is an album I took a long time to warm up to, but gets better every time. Beyond that, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned, Vicarious and Jambi kind of swap in and out of that #2 spot. Parabola and Schism are the next two, but don't sleep on The Grudge or Ticks and Leeches. Title track is probably the GOAT song of the 21st Century. Probably the finest record (and certainly the finest "heavy" record) of the 21st Century. My favorites are Eulogy and Ænima, but frankly, 46 and 2 is too close to be left out. Don't sleep on Intolerance, Crawl Away, Swamp Song, really all of it. It does not quite have the highs of later albums, but is really worth listening to, start to finish (as are all Tool albums). Prison Sex and Sober (which will be the "popular" choices), but the album is really solid, start to finish.
